    Croydon Concert Band performed at Lilydale Heights College

    On Saturday 30 May, the Croydon Concert Band performed at the Performing Arts Centre at Lilydale College.

    Under the guidance of Musical Director Andrea Crompton and Associate Conductor Scott Huddleston, the band presented a varied program featuring some of their favourite music, from Scottish melodies to arrangements of iconic Australian classics, including Peter Allen’s I Still Call Australia Home and John Farnham’s You’re the Voice.

    A highlight of the afternoon was a pair of jazz duets performed by two of the band’s younger members, Charlie and Flynn, on trombone and guitar. Their musicianship and confidence delighted the audience, and the band is fortunate to have such talented young performers among its ranks.

    Continuing what has become a tradition for the band, the concert also featured afternoon tea during the interval, providing an opportunity for audience members and musicians to socialise and enjoy the community spirit that is such an important part of the band.

    On Saturday 23 May, the Croydon Brass Band performed an intimate concert at South Croydon Anglican Church. The program featured a varied selection of music, including marches, hymns, film favourites, and Disney classics.

    Since COVID, the band has undergone a period of transformation, welcoming many new members into its ranks. Several members were recognised for having been involved with the group for 12 months or less, highlighting the band’s recent growth and renewal. Now back at full strength, the focus has shifted to making music together.

    Just as important as the music itself, audience members were treated to some insightful commentary by the band’s musical director and MC, Melina Benger followed by a delightful afternoon tea, making for a warm and enjoyable community event.

    On Saturday 16 May, the Croydon Wind Symphony presented Fiesta! — a vibrant celebration of Spanish and Latin American music, song, and dance.

    Performing to an captivated audience at the Performing Arts Centre at Boronia K-12 College, the band delivered a lively and energetic program. Highlights of the afternoon included Paul’s guitar solo in Adagio from Concierto de Aranjuez, and the colourful dance performances, which added excitement and visual flair.

    On Mother’s Day, the Croydon Wind Symphony performed at the Healesville Festival 2026 Family Fun Day in Queens Park.

    The band presented a preview of music from their upcoming Fiesta! concert, alongside a few favourites for younger audience members.

  • Croydon Concert Band Musical Director, Andrea Crompton named Maroondah Citizen of the Year

    Croydon Concert Band Musical Director, Andrea Crompton named Maroondah Citizen of the Year

    Andrea Crompton was named Maroondah’s Citizen of the Year. Andrea has dedicated 22-plus years to building the Croydon Concert Band into an inclusive and supportive community of more than 40 musicians. Andrea mentors members of all ages and abilities, as well as arranging and leading performances at local schools, retirement villages and community events.

    In addition to this, Andrea organises band camps across rural Victoria, taking on various roles from Musical Director to First Aid Officer, all while supporting members
    experiencing hardship. A David Hodgett Award recipient in 2012 and a Deakin Award winner in 2018, Andrea is also an advocate for children’s
    theatre and a para-triathlete.

    “Accessibility is a huge thing I am passionate about. We have someone sit alongside and mentor anyone who might need a little more support,” Andrea said.

    “I’m also passionate about different levels of musicians being part of an organisation… So, seeing people learn new instruments but also challenging those who might want to do a solo.

    By invitation from Maroondah City Council, the Croydon Wind Symphony performed a selection of Christmas carols in Main Street, Croydon, on Saturday 20 December. Shoppers and visitors in the precinct were able to enjoy the festive music, helping to create a warm holiday atmosphere.
