On Saturday 30 May, the Croydon Concert Band performed at the Performing Arts Centre at Lilydale College.

Under the guidance of Musical Director Andrea Crompton and Associate Conductor Scott Huddleston, the band presented a varied program featuring some of their favourite music, from Scottish melodies to arrangements of iconic Australian classics, including Peter Allen’s I Still Call Australia Home and John Farnham’s You’re the Voice.

A highlight of the afternoon was a pair of jazz duets performed by two of the band’s younger members, Charlie and Flynn, on trombone and guitar. Their musicianship and confidence delighted the audience, and the band is fortunate to have such talented young performers among its ranks.

Continuing what has become a tradition for the band, the concert also featured afternoon tea during the interval, providing an opportunity for audience members and musicians to socialise and enjoy the community spirit that is such an important part of the band.

Andrea has dedicated 22-plus years to building the Croydon Concert Band into an inclusive and supportive community of more than 40 musicians. Andrea mentors members of all ages and abilities, as well as arranging and leading performances at local schools, retirement villages and community events.

In addition to this, Andrea organises band camps across rural Victoria, taking on various roles from Musical Director to First Aid Officer, all while supporting members
experiencing hardship. A David Hodgett Award recipient in 2012 and a Deakin Award winner in 2018, Andrea is also an advocate for children’s
