For the first time in many years, the Croydon Wind Symphony competed in the Australian National Band Championships, held in Melbourne. They competed in the Open ‘B’ Grade Concert Section against several high level bands from Victoria, New South Wales and New Zealand.
The four pieces of music played included the hymn Be Thou My Vision arranged by Travis J. Cross, test piece Under Loch and Quay by Daniel Dinh, Puszta by Jan Van der Roost and Wellington March by Wilhelm Zehle.
After many rehearsals, Croydon Wind Symphony took to the stage at the Eldon Hogan Performing Arts Centre at Xavier College. While the competition was fierce and we did not win, the experience was valuable and it be remembered for a long time.
